As the mother of a 14 year old son, Brady, my primary interest in life is spending time with my family. Seven years ago, I was able to experience first grade not only as a teacher, but also as a parent! While it was eye opening at times, it was an amazing experience. Brady keeps us very busy with his love of sports, and I love being a football/baseball/basketball mom. During my spare time (and I use that term loosely) I enjoy taking pictures and planning future visits to our favorite place - Disney.
This is my thirteenth year with Eastern Elementary as a 1st grade teacher. As an educator I strive to conform my teaching style to the needs that will best serve each of my students.
My decision to obtain a career in teaching relates to my desire to make a positive impact in the life of a child. The teaching profession is a rewarding career, which provides those involved to positively affect the lives of our society's upcoming future. Before coming to the realization of my life-long dream of becoming a teacher, I have worked in several fields that focus on human development. Each employment opportunity has been child-centered, and related to the importance of education in one aspect or another.
I began my educational journey with a bachelor's degree in Social Work. From this degree I obtained valuable knowledge pertaining to human behavior in the social environment, research, social work values and ethics, social and economic justice and populations-at-risk, as well as diversity. I have been able to utilize this knowledge throughout my growth as a professional. I completed my first field placement with little knowledge of the dynamics in the public school. After completing this observation, I walked away with helpful tips and procedures to utilize in my own classroom.
Since my first observation, I accepted a job working in the local school district as a therapeutic day treatment counselor. Through this employment opportunity I gained valuable knowledge through daily observation and collaboration with teachers and administration. I learned the importance of positive classroom management, and strategies to assist with this goal. This employment opportunity opened the door for my current position as your child's 1st grade teacher :)
